Sciatica refers to the pain radiating along the path of the sciatic nerve, typically affecting only one side of the body. To resolve the pain, we either become completely dependent on pain killers or conclude that there is no other option than surgery. No matter how severe the condition is, one should not lose hope. Nature’s power is limitless and through proper treatment it is possible to get rid of the pain and enjoy the rhythm of life again.
What is Sciatica?
The sciatic nerve is known to be the largest nerve present in the human body. It stems out from the lumbar spinal cord of the low back, extending up to the lower limb through the buttock & down the legs, ending just below the knee. Sciatica is most commonly caused by the compression of this nerve root due to slipped or herniated disk. However, simply inflammation & irritation may also lead up to the condition. It gives rise to leg pain, which might feel like a bad leg cramp or it can be excruciating. Sometimes the pain may occur on both the sides. The degeneration can crop up from the age of 30 years and it affects 10% to 40% of population. Several conditions like poor posture, prolonged sitting or standing, strenuous activities can lead to sciatica.
