Migraine is a severe form of headache that can cause intense throbbing or a pulsating sensation in one area of the head. It is commonly accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Migraine attacks can cause significant pain for hours to days and can be excruciating. Therefore we need to be aware of the condition and its natural solution. Typically Migraine headaches affect one half of the head. They are pulsating in nature, and last from 2 to 72 hours. The pain is generally made worse by physical activity. Up to one-third of people with Migraine headaches perceive an aura – a transient visual, sensory, language or motor disturbance which signals that the headache will soon occur. Occasionally an aura can occur with little or no headache following it. The severity of the pain, duration of the headache and frequency of attacks is variable. Migraines may often begin in childhood, adolescence or early adulthood and often progress through four stages – prodrome, aura, headache and postdrome – although everyone may not experience all the stages. The underlying causes of Migraines are unknown. However, they are believed to be related to a mix of environmental and genetic factors. They run in families in about two-thirds of cases and rarely occur due to a single gene defect. A number of psychological conditions are associated, including depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder, as are many biological events or triggers. Common Migraine triggers include: hormonal changes in women, certain foods or food ingredients, alcohol, stress, bright lights and sun glare, sleeplessness and effect of medications. Nowadays, all treatments merely target the symptoms, without addressing the root cause of the problem. These medicines have adverse effects too.
